View Southeast from the foot of Stearns Wharf
Stearns wharf has this unusual spur that turns back towards the land from the center of the wharf.
Long ago, before the highways and the trucking industry evolved, there was actually a railroad line that came right out onto the Wharf via this spur. Unfortunatly, it crossed the mouth of Mission Creek and kept getting washed out. After this happened a few times, they got tired of spending the money to rebuild it, but they left part of it up for fishing and other such uses. Now the Museum of Natural History and the Nature Conservancy both have buildings on it.
