View from the end of the Santa Barbara Breakwater looking back at the harbor, and the Mesa in the distance.
It was a long time ago when I was in the Sea Scouts and I and Rick and Gary Weisman and maybe one or two others got permission to go camping out there on the sand bar. That was when the old metal gas containers were still partially above ground, before they drove the pilings that ware there now in. I remember I suggested that we could start a campfire inside one of the old Gas containers, but Mr. Stephens, I guess it was said no.no, there might be pockets of gas still in there somewhere. I thought that was unlikely, but I could live without doing that. I was grateful that we were getting to go camp out there at all. We must have been about 13 or 14 years old
