Rock Group West of Refugio Beach

Another less than dazzling example. Again, this does not look very good because I have consciously restrained myself from putting in the shadows. Neither did I put in any waves. Can you even tell it's a seashore scene? The main subject is a scattering of rocks whose monumental size and peculiar arrangement interested the geologist in me.

On this, my second visit to the location, I finally decided that it was the result of a syncline; a small syncline of hard shale that was underlain by somewhat less durable strata that got eroded by the action of the waves.

2008 update

Okay, it's terrible. Well, I gave up drawing for using a slide projector for a long time and, boy, it really shows. If you follow along in these sketch pages, you can see the improvement.
